OUR VISION

Sanctuary Mental Health Ministries is a faith based Canadian non-profit, rooted in the Christian tradition. Sanctuary began in 2012 with a dream to address the gap between Church, faith, and mental health as identified in a Vancouver Coastal Health Region survey.

Sanctuary began by serving local churches in the lower mainland of British Columbia. However, after receiving many calls for help from churches across Canada, a vision for the nation was launched in 2017. Now new tools and resources are being developed to serve the entire body of Christ in Canada… and beyond.

At Sanctuary it is our belief that the Church has a central role to play in promoting mental wellness and mental health recovery. Sanctuary offers training, tools, and resources to equip the Church to be a sanctuary for all people, at all stages of their mental wellness journeys. The teachings and spirit of Christ are central to the vision, mission, and values of Sanctuary.

“Sanctuary offers training, tools, and resources to equip the Church to be a sanctuary for all people, at all stages of their mental wellness journeys.”

OUR VALUES

Compassion
We see the inherent value of persons made in God’s image, and seek to care for and honour each individual in the way of Christ.

Hope
We believe that hope is one of the greatest gifts that God gives us, and so we seek to foster hope and well-being in all that we do, and in all whom we meet.

Relationship
We believe that healthy communities are vital in promoting and sustaining mental wellness.

Excellence
We seek to reflect the highest standards in our research, resource development, and training services.

Integrity
We seek to be authentic in all our relating and trustworthy in all that we say and do.

Servanthood
We are called to serve the Church, empowering God’s people to fulfill the call to love our neighbours.

“Understanding and responding to experiences of mental health and mental health challenges is profoundly important for both Church and society. And yet, there seem to be relatively few voices and initiatives that really seek to engage with the issues both theologically and practically. Sanctuary Ministries is one of those prophetic voices that calls our attention to important things and seeks to equip God’s people to be the kind of healing community that they are intended to be. The work of this organization is invaluable.”
